AnüK - Anouk Ganzevoort - Artistieke Background

Als voormalig professioneel podiumartieste was mijn artistieke praktijk jarenlang verbonden met muziek, zang, pianospel, songwriting en theater. Mijn carrière op de scène kwam abrupt tot stilstand door een ongeneesbare neurologische stemstoornis (spasmodische dysfonie).

Deze breuk leidde tot een noodzakelijke artistieke heroriëntatie richting beeldende kunst, waarin ik inmiddels ongeveer acht jaar professioneel actief ben. In de voetsporen van mijn vader, beeldhouwer Wybrand Ganzevoort, en mijn moeder, schrijfster en schilderes Lucienne Stassaert, vond ik opnieuw aansluiting bij een beeldende traditie.

De overgang van podium naar materie betekende geen breuk, maar een verdieping van mijn artistieke onderzoek naar expressie en vorm. Waar vroeger de stem het medium was, spreekt nu het sprakeloze beeld.

Mijn beeldend werk bevindt zich op het snijvlak van sculptuur, materiaalonderzoek en ruimtelijke verbeelding. Sculptuur is voor mij geen object, maar een aanwezigheid in de ruimte. In mijn werk resoneren universele thema’s zoals liefde, Weltschmerz, dualiteit, lichamelijkheid en kwetsbaarheid, maar ook actuele spanningen zoals conflict, geweld en vrijheid.

Mijn achtergrond in de podiumkunsten blijft voelbaar: mijn sculpturen dragen vaak een performatieve spanning in zich, alsof ze een beweging vasthouden of een moment van emotionele intensiteit belichamen.

Dans, beweging, expressie, emotie, dramatiek, theatraliteit zijn woorden die bij mijn werk passen, in een verstilde wereld vol van muziek. Ik vang het onzichtbare innerlijke in materiën als klei, cement, metaal, brons, koper, acrylhars, hout, vlas, papier, of gevonden voorwerpen (zoals een pianokader met hamertjes), opgeraapte natuurelementen (zoals schors en verdorde plantenresten).

Ondanks de bijna onmenselijke postures behouden mijn creaties een gewichtig evenwicht, waardoor ze ruimte en tijd in beweging lijken te zetten. Op zoek naar een vierde dimensie in een eeuwig bewegende, bewogen tijd.

As a former professional stage artist, my artistic practice was for many years deeply connected to music: singing, piano performance, songwriting and theatre. My career on stage came to an abrupt halt due to an incurable neurological voice disorder (spasmodic dysphonia).

This rupture led to a necessary artistic reorientation toward the visual arts, in which I have now been professionally active for approximately eight years. Following in the footsteps of my father, sculptor Wybrand Ganzevoort, and my mother, writer and painter Lucienne Stassaert, I rediscovered a connection to a visual artistic tradition.

The transition from stage to material did not represent a break, but rather a deepening of my artistic research into expression and form. Where the voice once served as my primary medium, the silent image now speaks.

My visual work unfolds at the intersection of sculpture, material exploration and spatial imagination. For me, sculpture is not an object but a presence in space. Within my work resonate universal themes such as love, Weltschmerz, duality, corporeality and vulnerability, as well as contemporary tensions related to conflict, violence and freedom

My background in the performing arts remains palpable: my sculptures often carry a performative tension, as if they were holding a movement or embodying a moment of emotional intensity.

Dance, movement, expression, emotion, drama and theatricality are words that resonate with my work — within a silent world still filled with music. I attempt to capture the invisible inner life through materials such as clay, cement, metal, bronze, copper, acrylic resin, wood, flax, paper, or found objects (such as a piano frame with hammers), as well as collected natural elements like bark and dried plant remnants.

Despite their almost inhuman postures, my creations maintain a delicate equilibrium, giving the impression that they set space and time into motion — in search of a fourth dimension within ever-moving moving times.
